Hongrui "Sam" Sheng

Hi! I am a junior majoring in Chemistry at Fudan University. My research interests lie at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Chemistry, with a strong focus on utilizing data-driven approaches to accelerate materials discovery.

Currently, I am exploring how machine learning methods can be applied to the rational design of electrocatalysts, particularly for glycerol valorization.

Research Interests

  • AI for Chemistry: Applying machine learning methods and Large Language Models to chemical systems.
  • Catalyst Design: Electrocatalysis, specifically for biomass valorization.
  • Computational Chemistry: Density Functional Theory (DFT) & Quantum Chemistry.

Education & Leadership

  • Fudan University | B.S. in Chemistry (Expected 2027)
  • “AI + Wangdao” Program | Research Program Leader
  • Fudan Integrative Medicine Association | Founding President

Technical Skills

  • Programming: Python, C++
  • Computational Tools: ASE, MACE, Gaussian, Psi4
  • Academic Writing: $\text{La}\text{Te}\text{X}$, Markdown

Languages

  • Mandarin Chinese: Native
  • English: Proficient (TOEFL: 107)
  • Japanese: Advanced (JLPT N1)

Beyond the Lab

Outside the lab, I share a fulfilling and joyful life with my girlfriend 🦈 (while my representative emoji is 🌵). She is a sophomore majoring in Korean Language and Literature, also at Fudan University 🥰. She loves writing, Korean culture, the Maltese and Golden Retriever puppy (线条小狗), and all things cute! To me, she is a little cat, a bird, a shark, and a Maltese all in one! Feel free to check out her portfolio.

I am planning to add a Gallery section for sharing photos and memories later!💜

Cactushark

Influenced by my friend p-mandevillei, I have become an amateur aquarist specializing in native fishkeeping (specifically Tanichthys albonubes and Sinorhodeus microlepis). I look forward to starting a brand new tank of my own in the near future!
